Cold Caller’s mission is simple: To pay crime and mystery authors for original works of short fiction.
Thanks to your support, I’m happy to share that’s already starting to happen:
Your subscriptions pay for great writing.
If I can pull back the curtain and talk about our editorial process a moment: After we accept a short story, we work through any edits with our writers to arrive at an agreed upon “final draft.” Once that’s done, and the contract is signed, Cold Caller issues a payment of $125 for first North American serial rights.
I assumed, for our first year at least, this project would be fully self-funded. What I didn’t count on was the incredible support we’ve received in our first month of existence. That support includes more than a dozen paying subscribers who are already helping us fulfill our core mission.
If you’re one of these subscribers, then on behalf of myself and our writers: Thank you for all your support. Your contributions are already paying some of the best crime and mystery writers working today, and I can’t wait to start sharing their work.
Furthermore, paid subscriptions help expand the scope of what’s possible for Cold Caller to accomplish—things like adding more interviews, publishing more fiction, and sending more acceptances to the best writers in the game.
And if you’re not a paid subscriber yet? Become one today. Help us become one of the best markets for short crime and mystery fiction.
Even $5 a month goes a long, long way toward helping us continue our mission to support writers working in these genres we love. Join us:
Other ways you can help support Cold Caller.
We’ll start publishing fiction this summer, but in the meantime we’re already sharing stories, publishing interviews, and promoting other crime and mystery publications. If you dig what we’re doing, a great way to help us do more of it is by sharing us with your pals:
And finally: Thank you for being a part of this project. Thank you for reading, supporting, restacking, commenting, and all the thousand other ways you let us know that you’re out there. I appreciate you, and our writers do, too. I can’t wait to share their incredible work.
