This is a dandy police procedural hitting on all cylinders. Very good character work with Sami the detective and his problems. I like how this dips in Middle-eastern crime gangs in Michigan as part of the setting. Masterful puzzle solving by Sami.
Mike, just wanted to compliment you on this story. I've been on Substack now for over two years and The Suicide Disease is one of the best crime stories that I have read so far. Writing and reading crime fiction is what I do, and have done, for a long time. I know what I like and I sure as hell liked this. You've got that certain something. Great job. - Jim
I tell you what Mike, I meant every word. Btw, that Derringer you have doesn't surprise me a bit. Tried for years to own of those little bastards but it never happened. Look forward to reading more from you, both old and new. - Jim

I thought I was too busy to read this rn but couldn't stop!
It's great storytelling!
This old boatswain's mate is a sucker for a story with a sailor in it.
Great story! Love your style.

Mike McHone is one of the best!
You are far too kind! Thanks again for publishing this piece. :) It means so much to me.
Thanks so much Sandra! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
